I am not sure what the exact assignment was, but I found this letter in Ian's take-home folder this morning. It's a letter to his teacher.
Dear Mrs. [name]:
I would like extra recess time every day. If I had extra recess, I would get more exercise. More exercise would make my heart stronger and I would be healthyer. Extra recess would help me get my wiggles out. At recess, I move around a lot which tires out my wiggles. I've given you lots of great reasons why extra recess is a wonderful idea.
Sincerely,
Ian
Could be the most well-thought-out argument the kid has ever made. And today, I am all for anything that makes his heart stronger.

That's awesome! Wonderfully thought out and expressed. Love the fact that he knows what he wants, but also WHY (to get the wiggles out)!
Does he have a sensory diet incorporated into his day?
Yes, he does. I think the greatest achievement thus far is switching him to Adderall XR a few weeks ago. The fact that he can communicate he needs and desires so well is largely due to this drug and its ability to help him pull it all together. That and. . .he's a fabulous kid!
Jaysen had a huge leap in communication, focus, and all that good stuff when he was on Risperdal. He developed TD as a result, and was trialed on Seroquel. The Seroquel did not have those positive effects, and he just didn't seem "right", so we stopped it. He is currently unmedicated, and seeming to be holding his aggression together, although I do miss the bonus achievements he was making on Risperdal.
