Regularity

I never thought I would be the type of person who celebrated bowel movements. In fact, more than one person has heard me say, "Shit happens - get over it!" Many of us take for granted that it will happen easily.

As with many kids on the spectrum, Ian has been constipated for the last 5 years. When the poop occurs, it usually results in some sort of plumbing disaster. Often it brings out his creative side. Sometime we cheer a little when Ian is able to complete the process on his own without the need for a clothing change afterward.

This week, however, we are celebrating REGULARITY. For the first time since he was a baby, Ian pooped 6 out of the last 7 days. (Only a real nut job keeps statistics on such matters.)

What has made this happen? Is it finally finding the right dose of Magnesium Citrate? A significant decrease in anxiety? Eating more fiber? Probably a combination of all of these. All I know is, we will have to set his alarm clock for 10 minutes earlier in the morning so he can read the comics and complete this new part of his morning routine.

God help me for writing about this!
